Why is Anthony Bourdain interesting?

I read his Les Halles cookbook before and there were plenty of laugh-out-loud bits as well as other fun stuff within the book. It was a lot more than I expected of a cookbook, but it was also so totally Bourdain.

I like his self-deprecatory remarks, his wit and his ability to be so sarcastic without being condescending to the people in the places he visit. I think it stems from the ability to laugh at himself and allow others to do the same.

I enjoy both A Cook's Tour and No Reservations mostly because of Bourdain's wit and biting sarcasm, but also because he tries the most unheard of delicacies in most cultures, like iguana, raw seal, and fermented shark. I'm intrigued. And I think he tries to be as honest as he can in those situations. And well, they are his shows, so yes, he's arrogant and I'm sure offensive to some people, but that's his personality and he probably wouldn't have a show if that wasn't how he was initially. I guess what I'm saying is that he IS respectful of others' cultures and how couldn't he be if he is willing to partake in their customs? You must have some level of understanding and respect to do the things that he does, but he's still staying true to himself in voicing his own perspectives. But I'm sure there are things he may never try again even if he was paid a ton to do it! haha.

i agree with dressedinblack, hes much nicer and respectful in no reservations. a good thing is that he's honest, but sometimes he could be a little more respectful as he can be a little arrogant.

I love that he will try anything once. He has a witty, sarcastic sense of humour and he is always respectful of the cultures that he encounters.
