> old eggs
You probably mean Century Eggs? That's traditional made by soaking duck eggs in horse urine and packed straw for erm. a couple of months. THe acid makes the egg white turn into a coffee coloured jelly and the egg yolk a yucky off-colour. Of course these days, horse urine isn't used, just some acid replacement that I can't remember the name of. Suddenly I have this craving for yummy herbal turtle soup. =) I went to beijing and saw scorpions, crickets, cicadas, and larvae on a kebab sticks. I guess when you order an insect on a stick, they'll deep fry it. But I didn't dare try cos I'd probably bite my intestines through. Looks really yucky. Cleverly, I didn't see any other chinese or people buying them or eating them either! hahaah could be a conspiracy theory to get tourists to go take pics you know. =P Anyone tried insect on a stick and has experiences to share? |

Other than rice and steamed vegatables i think i would probably starve to death over their lol.
As it is i almost starved in Canada becuase i didnt like most of their cooking. *laughs* China.. Heads of fish and frogs and snakes.. Oh man that about killed me to watch haha. A glimpse into how and what i eat. I dislike all seafood. My food source generally is texmex (mexican) food like cheese and chicken enchiladas, home made salsa, burritos and tacos and what not. The second types of food i cook are italian based like spahghettis and lasagnas. After that its basic american foods like hamburgers or hotdogs and sandwhiches once in a while. Once in a while i make stir fried rice with vegies/almonds chicken. Thats about as close as i get. The chiense food ive eaten i think is highly amaerianized. My ex-wife one time worked at a Chinese resterant here. She told me she asked the cooks about it. They said they would never touch the stuff they make here, and they make their own meals seperately in the back. I remember one of them had to do with old eggs and something. Very strange to us. With China growing so much, i wonder how their food will change or alter anything when it comes to global cooking. That or perhaps if their foods might alter for themselfs as well? |
