Melbourne!!
Melbourne's great for it's continental feel and great food. Having one of the largest greek communities and vietnamese communities means you'll also get a very wide range of experiences all within one country. AND Melbourne's got great beaches too!

Some of the favourites you shouldn't miss are:
1) Chapel Street (full of quirky designer shops. Models go there to shop when the visit Melbourne)
2) Frankston Beach or even the Mornington Peninsula Area has great beaches
3) Try Pho at the Vietnamese Pho (beef noodles) restaurantes in Richmond.
4) Experience greek patisseries and great greek and Italian food along St Kilda's Beach (towards Luna Park end) and Lygon Street.

Have fun!

the best chinese food in melbourne is at a place called SENG HING GOURMET it used to have a branch on toorak rd in south yarra but now there's only the main outlet in caulfield. i went there so often when i was living in melbourne that i made friends with the owner! kimmy is her name-pls tell i said hi! MUST TRY is her chilli chicken loaded with garlic oh my!

byron bay is a definite visit because the beaches are amazing! but be careful of the rips in the water though they can be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. the look-out point which is the most eastern tip of australia is breathtaking along with mountain goats haha. earth & sky seafood in byron bay has amazing pizza and pastas and when i was there the servers were hot too!

ohmygawd SCREW BYRON!!!! who needs another beach??!

Melbourne is such a fascinating city plus Bells Beach off torquay makes byron look like an inflatable pool!

Why should you go to melbourne TJ??! so many reasons!!! but here are my favourites...

1.it's australia's artiest city
art, architecture and culture. opera, theatre, galleries, comedy (comedy fest is on april 12! www.comedyfestival.com.au not to mention a vibrant LIVE MUSIC scene (go to the Espy in St Kilda or the arthouse in north melbourne for a more underground feel) beautiful buildings that hark back to victorian europe like exhibition bldg, flinders st station, fabulously restored MPO, the astor cinema (more art deco) and darling arcades off collins st....

2. its australia's most fashionable city
please sydney siders. don't even try for this one! melbournians are edgy, fashion foward and fearless when it comes to their dressing. yeah they wear a lotta black - but so do new yorkers and parisians! step into the designer strip on collins st, or for a wallet-friendly option factory outlets and funky places in fitzroy (brunswick st & smith st) ya can't miss chapel st - just coz it's where its all at... take a walk from the toorak end (old money, pearl-necklaced ladies and trendy wendies) to the windsor end (grubbier, dodgier, but still pretty cool)

3. it's australia tastiest city
thanks to one of the country's most cosmopolitan populations, melbourne's food scene features the best of italian, greek, chinese and vietnamese cusines. have to-die-for gelato on lygon st, killer souvlaki at felafel house on chapel st, yum cha at sharks fin inn on bourke st and a hearty bowl of pho (beef noodles with soup) at the iconic mekhong on swanston st.

4. it's australia's best coffee
for the REAL authentic italian experience you cant beat pellegrini's on the spring st end of bourke st. otherwise pretty much any sidewalk cafe you walk into will have a quality cappucinno or late. try the distinctively australian flat white (a stronger milky coffee with no froth) which you won't find outside of oz!

5. it's australia's coolest hidden bars
bars so cool that NO ONE knows where they are? bars in a back alley dumpster? bars that require password entry? Only a nightlife as sophisticated as melbourne's... search for st jerome's, croft institute and honky tonk's in the city... and put your ear to the ground and do some asking around abt the newest places - only the word on the street is up to date!
