Check out the book Down Under by Bill Bryson. He gives a hilarious and fascinating take on his travels through Australia. This may not help you specifically in the NT but might give you a broader perspective on Australia. Hope you like it!

You're already somewhere up here now, but head out to Kakadu to try the traditional Aboriginal way of life. Also, if you are wandering around the Smith Street Mall in Darwin, you can regularly see Aboriginal actor David Gulpilil (Crocodile Dundee) floating around the Aboriginal art store.
