Darwin is not really Australia and not yet Asia. Check out the sunsets over the Arafura Sea from the grounds of the Art Museum. Then go and eat Malaysian, Indonesian, Indian and Islander food at the Mindil Beach Markets, buy arty junk and listen to the Aboriginal and Islander buskers. Hire a car, drive to Jabiru, ignore the uranium mine and go for a cruise where you can feed the crocodiles and the eagles from a ranger guided boat on the river.
when in darwin on sunday you should find out where the thai markets are. its pretty amazing what you can find there. Litchfield national park is also worth a visit. if you're not a hardcore jungle trekker you'll probably be annoyed that kakadu is not easy to get to. litchfield is much closer and smaller, so you can get around much easier. the waterfalls there are nice to swim in. make sure you check for crocodile signs though. if you're in kakadu, definitely do the plane ride over the park if you have money. it gives you a pretty good perspective on just how big the place is.
Great stuff! I am writing notes right now getting ready for the Northern Territory. I am the Music Food man. Any suggestions of must see's(eats and music) in the Northern Territory. Any help is much appreciated! Cheers! Gabe
