Hi, Renee!

Here are some interesting of Taiwan traditional culture to show you!

1. Taiwanese Traditional Hand Puppet (Some people called it as “Glove Puppet”) My English and German friends love this very much! They told me that they never see this in other place of Asia, of course, no mention in Europe! So, it’s the first thing that you cannot miss!! Here are three recommended places for you to see the Hand Puppet display and the performance in Taipei City!!

(1) Lin Liu-Hsin Puppet Theatre Museum: Please refer more information at http://www.taipeipuppet.com/index.html “Quote from the site: The Museum Workshop is the place where all puppet heads are carved, hats and costumes are made and it also serves as a classroom. This is where the puppets are born and where they are created from the firsts drafts to the final product. The Museum Workshop is managed by master puppeteer Chen Xihuang and puppet carver Lai Shi-an.”

(2) See-Join Puppet Theater Restaurant: It’s a restaurant not only providing the typical Taiwanese dishes but also performing the show there. Visitors also are invited to experience how to play the hand puppet! You must book before you go. Please see more detail at www.see-join.com.tw

2. Near by the Lin Liu-Hsin Puppet Theatre Museum, you must visit Xiahai City God Temple (also named as Hsiahai Cheng-Huang Temple) to seek the romantic love! Please refer to the site at http://www.wcfcf.com/progrm/maptour/tem-haie.htm.This is the most powerful temple for the local “single” people! The magic power also attracts many International visitors to worship!! Don’t miss it!! (PS. This area, Da Dao Cheng, is the earliest developing place in Taipei City!! Many historical buildings are also preserved here!!) You can got more information at http://www.wcfcf.com/default.htm.

So many things to see here… I’ll try to update you more information as much as I can! I love cultural staffs as well!! Welcome to Taiwan!! :-)

Hey Cath,
I'm starting my Taiwan research tomorrow and these recommendations are so helpful! Thanks for the attention to my specialty.
I've never heard of a theatre puppet museum, that sounds unique.
I feel welcome, and I'm not even there yet!
Thanks for that!
Renee

Hei Renee! if/when u're ard orchard rd rite along the sidewalk toward the traffic junction going to wheelock place(borders) there's a mural which is made of colourful small tiles..though there is not a lot of art culture here besides the colourful and architectural buildings.. Big Grin
