*Accommo

I have to say you can forget the YMCA. As a receptionist in one of the YMCA here in Hong KOng, this is all I can tell you:
There are 3 YMCA in Hong Kong and 2 of them is a 4 stars hotel with harbour view rooms (The Salisbury YMCA and the Harbour View International) and the other one is a 3 stars hotel at the city centre (The YMCA International). All of them will cost you more them half of your budget a day per person even if you book through the cheapest source...
Here are some suggestions - Guest houses in Chungking Manson. Chungking Manson is an old complexe with a shopping mall and a commercial/residencial duo-use building. There are many guest houses in the building ranged from HK$100 - $400 a night with commenu bathroom facilities. The location is in the middle of TST district (City Centre). One thing keep-in mind though... You can't expect too much with the room size/room condition with this price...

Ops, I mean to say *Accommodation* on my last post...

**Ideas for Rennee**

Hong Kong is such a culture divice city. You can experience just walking along...

Little India - Along Jordan and TST area, especially in Chungking Mansion: A lot of Indians / southern Asians lives and have their business here. Most of them are tylors or selling 'copy Rolex' along the street. Of course there are a lot of Indian food! (Try out those restaurants inside Chungking Mansion, they are very good and in-expensive)

Little Manilla - Sundays / public Holidays in Central: The business district of Central will turn into a carnarval place for hundreds of thousands of the Domestic Helpers (mostly Fillipinos). They gather around mostly in Charter Garden, Status Square and under the HSBC HQ building. They will chat, eat, sing and dance... to enjoy the only day off in the week. While you are in the district, you can also admire the unique design of some buildings here eg. HSBC building, the Central, Bank of China building... etc. By the way, the indonesian group (2nd largest groups for domestic helpers) will enjoy their day off in Victoria Park in Causeway Bay.

The young and the reckless - Mongkok: Most young people likes to shop and dine in Mongkok as the cost are low and the are a lot of 'upstair' shopping mall where you can find a lot of trendy clothes, latest technologes and rare novolties...

a City never sleeps - Lan Kwai Fong: Of course you have heard about it, read about it and may even seen it on TV. But you really have to experience it yourself to walk the street yourself with a bottle in hand - to try out what does it really means as 'Bar Hopping'

The foreign village - Lamma Island: A lot of foreigners are living in this small outlying island trying to find a bit of a quite moment like their hometown outside this concret forest named Hong Kong

The European Town - Macau: Just 1 1/2 hour away from Hong Kong by high-speed turbo jet. You can enjoy a whole differet experience in this former Portuguese town. However, you can only send one of you there as the turbo jet ticket will cost you about US$350 round trip... Have your fingers cross that your reward of your challenge is to send all of you there...

Well, as i work in the travel industry, I hope I can help you guys when you are here! you can contact me if you guys need more info!! my email is riorio@netvigator.com

ok, places to go i would suggest a visit to the ocean park. ocean park does not only have marine animals but also a pair of pandas and they have special activities for visitors to join. Those activities include feeding dolphins, preparing food for pandas and looking at the food for jelly fish in a laboratory.

I love eating in HK! So I shall recommend you some of the things I enjoyed and nobody has mentioned yet.

I love the dessert shops. Most of the places have a few of these. Some are part of a chain and some are mom & pop traditional shops. I think somebody already mentioned a chain in this thread but do try the mom & pop type of shops. Order things like walnut cream, black sesame cream, almond tea, rice balls in sweet soup etc - things you wouldn't have at home. Most of them will have pictures either on the walls or in the menu so it is not too difficult to order.

There are shops that specialize in "guai ling gou", translated roughly into "turtle cartilage gel". It is black and slightly bitter, but pour some syrup/honey in, it would be absolutely tasty. It is supposedly good for the skin too!

There is also steamed milk (custard consistency). I've tried a very very fresh milky tasty version in Macau's Portugese Square (1-2 hours away by ferry) but you can find them in the dessert shops in HK or Kowloon but the standards differ.

Oh, one more thing - a challenge to the TJs. Try the "chou dou fu" or literally "smelly beancurd" in HK, and since you are going to Taiwan, try the version there too. Let us know if there is any difference - we will probably see it in your faces on TV!

Chomp away!
