Welcome to the Hong Kong section of this forum. I am from the programming department of Travel and Living channel. I am most pleased to answer any questions you may have on the series, or even the channel as a whole. Remember that YOU have the power to decide where the TJs go, what they do and what food they will taste so keep those suggestions coming; and be sure to catch the Hong Kong episode of 5 Takes on June 24, Sat 9pm SIN/ HK. For audiences outside of Hong Kong, be sure to check your local listings or go back to the 5 Takes Home page for airing dates and times in your region!
Notes for the TJs. -First and foremost, getting out from the airport to the city - there are 3 ways: taxi, bus and Airport Express (train). Bus will be the cheapest, but note the place it is going. AND for the ease of travelling, you guys may want to get an Octopus card (a kind of e-money) that is widely used in the public transport in HK. It is available at the MTR station counter. Deposit has to be paid.(~HK$50, you better check for that)
- You may want to choose a hostel/ hotel to stay very carefully, because some are not hygienic (especially if it is in a small scale) and really you want to spend a little bit of money on that. (I prefer a hotel - but a bit expensive)
- Note that some Hong Kongers do not speak very good English, so when performing some of the activities suggested by the folks here, you may want to get a translator in advance. (The mother tongue here in HK is Cantonese)
- As for eating, it is extremely easy to find a place to eat, but again pay attention to the conditions of the stores. (Food malls in large shopping centers will be a good place to eat - cheap and hygienic)
Here is my suggestion for the trip of a day in Hong Kong, You guys can go to remote islands of Hong Kong to spend the day, during which you can taste delicious seafood and explore the fishing culture of the locals. Then, you can go back to the city at dawn and try if you can get to the top floor of IFC building (may not be possible) to have a night view of the Victoria Habour. Around midnight, you can go to Lan Kwai Fong to mingle with locals or the foreigners visiting HK and ask them their feeling about the city.
