You guys are going to be in New Zealand in the middle of New Zealand Music Month! This means an influx of local acts performing all over New Zealand for cheap prices for the month of May.
Check out http://www.nzmusic.org.nz/ for gig information.

Check out The Domain - it's a lovely park area near downtown Auckland where people chill out. Enjoy the weather in NZ - Australia has nothing on it.
Also check out the Auckland Museum, near The Domain - great for a rainy afternoon.

TJs,
Some of you seemed to be really into food and fruits in Australia. The native fruit to check out while in NZ is the fijoa fruit, which makes a great jam.
Interesting fact - kiwi fruit actually originates from China.
Also check out Manuka honey, which tastes GREAT and has amazing restorative properties. It's also used in cosmetics and creams - great for sunburn.

If you like the beach, find out how to get to the black sand beaches of Piha. It's a couple hours drive out of Auckland city. The sand is famous for being "black" due to special mineral properties. Bring footwear though cos the sand heats up extra fast! You can also climb Lions Rock, which has a great view from the top.
